This cottage was chosen based on its photo, size, and description was truly as advertised and so much more. It was within 4 miles of our friends living in the French countryside, its affordability for our family of 4, and its location on the edge of the French National Park, La Brenne. Never in our dreams did we expect to arrive at this tremendously, beautifully, historic country farm manor nestled in the forest among other French farms. The furnished 500-yr-old, 2-story stone cottage's architecture consisted of cathedral-large beamed ceilings and rafters, lovely tiled floors, and a small wooden staircase. This cottage was also attached to a larger farm home and a detached massive matching stone hall all arranged in a U-shape on the property. Although we could not access the additional 2 buildings it did not deter our astonishing first impression of this "best-kept secret" vacation accommodation. Did I mention the cottage's useable attached outdoor swimming pool, pool house, and patio deck? The landscape beauty and scents of the wildflowers and huge fragrant rose bush gardens enticed the quiet, relaxing, roomy ambiance of this gem site. All kitchen, bathroom, living room, and 3 bedrooms were spotlessly clean and in impeccable working order. A soccer site, ping-pong table, and family board games were readily available. The clear star-studded panoramic night skies, with sporadic croaking of frogs, ended our peaceful days of only the chirping and buzzing of the birds and the bees! Our hosts, Alice and Damian greeted us with pure warm enthusiasm on our arrival and showered us with such charm and comradery we felt as though we had known them for more than 8 days. Within a 4-mile drive is a larger town with restaurants and markets for dining and living supplies, easily accessible by car. We will return! I can not express what a blessing it was to have met Alice and Damien and our appreciation to them for the unforgettable, lifetime memory of our first stay in incredible France.
